How Do You Analyze a Political Cartoon

Something that I already new about trying to analyzing political cartoons was that it is best to look and analyze the symbols and Irony within the Cartoon. I learned that some artists tend to over tell or exaggerate certain points in the Cartoon, and also that some will also use labeling in their work. Going forward I will start to pay more attention to the words in the work along with keeping an I out for anything that might be over told. When I am analyzing cartoon I will most likely use the guide on the Library of Congress website.

After US took Philippians
1. This Cartoon is of Uncle Sam welcoming American Businessmen to the Philippians for them to expand the market. Americans believed that imperialist expansion was necessary for america to mature as a country.

Spanish American War

The Americans came into Cuba to get rid of the misrule, so the pan represents the Americans flipping the government and getting rid of the Spanish misrule.
Spanish American War

This Cartoon represents Uncle Sam carrying the American fleet to Cuba to give them there freedom. They use Uncle Sam because he is a sign of Freedom for america.
